Our Mission

The Mission of Women in Homeland Security is to provide a professional organization for women working in the field of homeland security. As a relatively new field, the organization strives to provide women with a forum to learn about the many facets of the discipline and to build the connections necessary for their own professional development and to understand the full spectrum of homeland security.

About Us

WHS is a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in March 2009. The group has grown to nearly 4500 public and private sector members. 2014-2015 marked the organization’s 5th Anniversary. The Mission of Women in Homeland Security is to build the homeland security community. WHS provides a professional organization for women working in the field of homeland security who are committed both to their jobs and to combating the threat of terrorism.

Meet the Leaders

We are excited to be led by such a dynamic and diverse group of women in the field of homeland security. Some tasked with protecting critical infrastructure, others in charge of cyber operations, agents in the field, practitioners protecting their company assets, all of our WHS Board members represent critical pieces of the homeland mission.

WELCOME TO STEM — WHS STYLE!
We are excited that you are interested in learning more about Women in Homeland Security’s STEM Initiative. The mission of the WHS STEM effort is to connect kids in middle to upper school with WHS members that work with homeland security technologies that “show” STEM in action. Women in Homeland Security launched our STEM initiative in 2012 with a tour and visit at the U.S. Secret Service Forensic labs. We worked with one school to brings kids in 7th grade to see the “science” behind forensics at the agency that protects the President of the United States. That connection was so successful that next, we worked with three schools to bring 7th and 8th graders to the Lockheed Martin Global Innovation Center to explore hands-on, tactical equipment in the fighter flight demonstration center, the energy resources center, and the space satellite center.

HELLO! AND WELCOME!
I also wanted to welcome you to the WHS STEM Initiative! As the Youth Ambassador to the WHS Board for STEM, I worked closely with the leadership of WHS to engage my school and my peers to attend and engage in STEM activities. The U.S. Secret Service was a BIG hit and so was flying a helicopter around D.C. at the Lockheed Martin Global Innovation Center!

Charitable Work

As part of Women in Homeland Security’s mission to build the homeland security community, our organization annually selects a charity in the homeland security community. Women in Homeland Security supports charitable organizations that seek to reduce, eradicate, or lessen the threat of future terrorism and/or support our domestic forces fighting against terrorism. We support these causes through two main events: an annual BBQ Cook-Off and our annual Spirit of Giving Charity Auction. To date, WHS has raised over $140,000 for charities in homeland including the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the ICE Foundation, the Border Patrol Foundation, the Fairfax County International Search & Rescue, the Coast Guard Enlisted Memorial Foundation, and the No Greater Sacrifice Foundation.

Few of our charity partners:
